Beeswax is a remarkable natural substance that only honeybees can make. Honeybees will consume about 8.5 pounds of honey to produce one pound of beeswax. Nectar is collected from over 17 million flowers to produce this amount of honey. Beeswax is secreted from glands located under the abdomen of worker bees that are 12 to 18 days old in the form of a scale about the size of a pinhead. Bees will chew the scales into soft pellets, then working in the darkness of the hive, they build perfect hexagonal cells for the storage of honey, pollen and developing offspring. Bees are able to build cells that are able to hold the maximum amount of honey with the minimum amount of precious wax. The beeswax scale when first secreted is tasteless, odorless and almost colourless. Beeswax obtains its golden yellow colour and distinctive fragrance due to propolis, pollen and floral source, making each candle unique.
Pure Beeswax Candles
Every candle we make is made with 100% pure beeswax and 100% cotton wicking. Beeswax will develop a frosted appearance over time called Bloom. This is an indicator of pure natural beeswax. Burning beeswax candles produces a bright golden flame and emits negative ions. When burning larger diameter candles allow molten pool to melt out to edge each time candle is lit, hugging in soft unmelted wax towards the wick to extend the life of the candle. Keep burning candles away from draft to avoid dripping. Beeswax burns at a higher temperature than paraffin, making it sometimes harder to light for the first time, but it burns longer, giving off more light and heat. Beeswax is non-allergenic and will not produce toxic by-products.
Negative Ions
Science has proven that anything floating in the air is doing so because it is "positively" charged. This includes dust, pollen, toxic residues and emissions, viruses, bacteria, germs and even odors from food, household pets, mold and mildew. All the toxins become positively charged by the static electricity, friction from walking across carpets, from "dry" air and the heating systems we all use. Negative ions bind with positive ions, creating complete molecules which have a heavier weight mass and a balanced charge causing the particles to simply fall to the ground. To rid homes of positive ions, many people purchase expensive "Negative Ion Emitters" which can produce an over abundance of ozone, which can be harmful. Burning beeswax candles will help to create the healthful air we all long for.
