Creighton Valley Apiaries is a working honey bee farm in Lumby, BC, in the North Okanagan, where we produce premium quality honeys and 100% pure natural beeswax candles. We have over 300 hives that are used for pollination of blueberries and cranberries in the Fraser Valley, and are then returned to the Okanagan to forage on wild flowers. The honey is extracted after each crop, giving each of our honey varieties a distinct flavour. The beeswax is collected during the honey extraction process. After the bees evaporate the moisture out of the honey, each individual cell that contains honey is 'capped with a wax lid to preserve the honey indefinitely. Bacteria cannot grow in honey unless moisture content rises above 21%, which is the only thing that will make honey spoil. These little cappings are removed to extract the honey and are then collected, rendered and triple filtered to ensure its purity. The beeswax is then taken to the candle studio where it is reheated to exactly the right temperature, filtered again and then individually poured by hand into moulds. We use only 100% cotton wicking in all our candles. Great care and attention is given when making each candle.
